Big Bike Picnic and Meet the West Midland Mayoral Candidates
A celebration of cycling and active travel, bring friends and family, pack some sandwiches / cake then ride, scoot or walk into the Park, looking out for the red Space for Cycling Flags on the main cycle route through.
Push Bikes ( Birmingham Cycling Campaign ) and three of the Mayoral candidates will be gathering in Victoria Square ( close to Birmingham New St Station ) at 12.30 to ride down National Cycle Network Route 5 to the picnic, in Canon Hill Park from 1.30pm.
The new Mayor will have important powers over Transport and Economic Development - including the West Midlands Cycling Charter. ALL of the Mayoral candidates now support the West Midlands Cycling Charter which specifies spending £10 per head p.a. on cycling across the region and a strategic network of high quality cycling routes.
Your support by attending will help convince them that they will need to deliver on these promises if elected, and your opportunity to tell them about what is needed to enable more people to enjoy cycling in the West Midlands.
A number of Wolves on Wheels members plan to cycle along the canal into Birmingham for the picnic, others will be taking the train to New Street station and cycle the remaining journey.
Your opportunity to meet Pete Durnell UKIP, Beverley Nielsen (Lib Dem), Sion Simon (Labour) and Andy Street (Conservative).
