The 4 Black Country Councils are working on a combined "Black Country Cycle City Ambition Grant" bid; if successful this will bring £5m of funding for improvement of cycle routes across the area.
The bid looks to deliver the following:
(a) Upgrade of Walsall canal form Town Wharf to boundary with Sandwell (7.5km);
(b) Upgrade of Stourbridge canal (Town Arm) from High Street to Essington Close and spur to the east (2.8km) plus on road route including Bells Lane, Barnett Lane, Broad Street, Cross Street and Summer Street (3.0km);
(c) Upgrade of Dudley canal from Delph Road to Leys Road (jnc with Stourbridge canal) (3.3km) plus 3 separate on road routes (i) Leys Road to Dudley Road (2.1km), (ii) Dudley Southern Bypass to Stourbridge Road (1.6km) and (iii) High Street to Cinder Road (1.3km);
(d) Birmingham Main Line canal from Dixon Street to junction with Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal (4.9km);
(e) Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal from junction with Birmingham canal to the i54 development (2.9km);
(f) Wryley and Essington canal from junction with Birmingham canal to Wednesfield town centre (3.5km);
(g) Walsall canal from the boundary with Walsall to the Birmingham Main Line canal (5.1km);
(h) Birmingham Main Line canal from the boundary with Birmingham to the boundary with Dudley (10.5km).
